1961 – The Beatles perform at noon at the Cavern Club, then at the Casanova Club, Sampson and Barlow’s New Ballroom in Liverpool and finally at the Town Hall in Litherland, Liverpool with Ray and the Del Renas.

1962 – A letter is sent by a lawyer on behalf of Brian, to a man of Liverpool who had murmured about Brian’s motivations on managing the Beatles, demanding an apology and warranty not to repeat the comments. Performance at the Cavern, with Gerry and the Pacemakers, and the Searchers.

1963 – Paul and John compose `From Me To You’ on the artists car going from York to Shrewsbury, during the Helen Shapiro tour. Concert at the Granada, Shrewsbury (Helen Shapiro tour). Brian and Dick James officially found Northern Songs Ltd.

1964 – UK Polydor single release: `Why (Can’t You Love Me Again)’/`Cry For A Shadow’. UK single release: `A World Without Love’, 1st by Peter and Gordon.

1964 – Number 1 Studio, Piccadilly Theatre, London. 6.30-9.00pm. Recording for BBC’s `From Us To You’ (2nd edition): `From Us To You’; `You Can’t Do That’; `Roll Over Beethoven’; `Till There Was You’; `I Wanna Be Your Man’; `Please Mister Postman’; `All My Loving’; `This Boy’; `Can’t Buy Me Love’; `From Us To You’.

1969 – Ringo starts shooting of `The Magic Christian’.

1963 – The Beatles, on the Helen Shapiro tour, perform at the Rialto Theatre, Fishergate, York, Yorkshire. Shapiro is still too ill to perform.

1964 – The Beatles in the recording studio, Studio Two, EMI’s Abbey Road Studios, London. “And I Love Her” is completed with two more takes. A New York newspaper says that John declared that there is no point in doing the Peace Festival in Toronto, since the money is not being used for peace but for others to have profits.

1968 – George celebrates his birthday with the Maharishi and his disciples. The Maharishi presents him with a plastic world map.

1969 – Allen Klein goes to Leonard Richenberg’s office, threating him with trials. Abbey Road, Studio unknown. Time unknown. Feburary 24th – On This Day In Beatles History

1943 – George Harrison is born at 12 Arnold Grove, Wavertree, Liverpool, England. Some sources state February 25 as his actual birthday. George told Billboard magazine in December 1992 that his birthday is actually February 24. He was born shortly before midnight, though his birth certificate states that he was born February 25.

1961 – The Beatles perform at the Grosvenor Ballroom, Liscard, Wallasey.

1962 – The Beatles perform at two locations. First they appear at the YMCA in Hoylake, Wirral, Cheshire. The audience, unhappy with The Beatles’ long introductions between songs, jeer them off stage. The Beatles then travel to the Cavern Club, Liverpool, where they perform after midnight, during one of the club’s all-night sessions.

1963 – The Beatles, on the Helen Shapiro tour, perform at Coventry Theatre, Coventry, Warwickshire.

1965 – The Beatles are in the Bahamas filming for the movie “Help!” (tentatively titled “Eight Arms To Hold You”). The Beatles are filmed riding bicycles around on Interfield Road, near the airport.

1967 – The Beatles in the recording studio, Studio Two, EMI’s Abbey Road Studios, London. More work on “Lovely Rita,” begun the previous day. Paul overdubs his lead vocal.

1982 – John (posthumously) and Yoko are awarded a Grammy Award for 1981 Album of the Year (“Double Fantasy”).

1986 – John Lennon’s album “John Lennon: Live in New York City” (EMI PCS 7301), the first authorized release of recordings from Lennon’s ‘One to One Concerts’ on August 30, 1972 (most tracks are from the afternoon show) is released in the U.K. Tracks: “New York City,” “It’s So Hard,” “Woman Is the Nigger of the World,” “Well Well Well,” “Instant Karma,” “Mother,” “Come Together,” “Imagine,” “Cold Turkey,” “Hound Dog” and “Give Peace a Chance.”

1989 – Ringo Starr’s album “Starr Struck: Best of Ringo Starr Vol. 2″ (Rhino Rhino R1-70199) is released in the U.S. The CD has four songs not on the LP. Songs on the LP: “Wrack My Brain,” “In My Car,” “Cookin’ (In the Kitchen of Love),” “I Keep Forgettin,’” “Hard Times,” “Hey! Baby,” “A Dose of Rock and Roll,” “Private Property,” “Can She Do It Likes She Dances,” “Heart on My Sleeve,” “Sure to Fall (In Love With You),” and “She’s About a Mover.” Additional songs on the CD version: “Attention,” “Who Needs a Heart,” “Hopeless,” and “You Belong to Me.

1962 – The Beatles perform four shows at three venues. First they play a lunchtime show at the Cavern Club, Liverpool. That evening they perform at the Tower Ballroom, New Brighton, Wallasey. The Beatles then rush to Technical College Hall in Birkenhead for a half-hour performance, after which they hurry back to the Tower Ballroom for a second performance.

1963 – The Beatles’ first single “Please Please Me/Ask Me Why” (Parlophone 4983) reaches No.1 on the “Disc” chart in the U.K, the first No.1 record for The Beatles. On March 2 it is No.1 on the “New Musical Express” chart (for the week ending March 1) and also No.1 on the “Melody Maker” chart. It also reaches No.1 on the BBC and “Record Mirror” charts. The Beatles perform on opening night of the second leg of the Helen Shapiro tour. They play at the Granada Cinema, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, performing for two “houses.” Before their first performance, The Beatles crowd into Helen Shapiro’s dressing room to watch their most recent appearance on the television program “Thank Your Lucky Stars,” which had been taped on the 17th.

1964 – The Beatles travel to Teddington Studio Centre to record their second appearance on the ABC Television variety show “Big Night Out.” Recording is done in front of a studio audience. The Beatles participate in three comedy skits, one of them showing customs inspectors searching The Beatles’ luggage as they are returning from America and finding the suitcases are all filled with cash. Then The Beatles play lip-sync performances of “All My Loving,” “I Wanna Be Your Man,” “Till There Was You,” “Please Mr. Postman,” “Money,” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” Broadcast on February 29.

1965 – The Beatles begin filming in the Bahamas for the movie “Help!” (tentatively titled “Eight Arms To Hold You”). First filmed are shots of Ringo listening to conch shells at a dock-side location (this scene would not be included in the final film). Then all four Beatles swim about fully clothed in the pool at the Nassau Beach Hotel (for the scene where The Beatles are escaping from the temple, diving through an opening in the hollow altar, into water, and surfacing at a busy hotel swimming pool).

1967 – The Beatles in the recording studio, Studio Two, EMI’s Abbey Road Studios, London. They start recording “Lovely Rita,” taping eight takes of the rhythm track and a McCartney bass overdub.

1972 – Paul McCartney and Wings completes its first tour with a performance at Oxford University.

1998 – John Lennon compilation album “Lennon Legend” (EMI/Parlophone 21954-2) is released in the U.S. The album is subtitled “The Very Best of John Lennon.” All tracks were digitally remastered. 1961 – The Beatles perform at Aintree Institute, Aintree, Liverpool, and at Hambleton Hall, Huyton, Liverpool.

1963 – The Beatles perform at the Oasis Club, Manchester.

1964 – The Beatles return to England. Arriving at London Airport in the morning, they hold a press conference, which is broadcast in the middle of a popular sports television broadcast, “Grandstand.” Pathe News covered The Beatles return to England and made a documentary film out of the footage for distribution to theatres. There was plenty of radio coverage, too! The Beatles gave a phone interview to Brian Mathew for the program “Saturday Club.” That interview was followed by a song request dedicated to George Harrison for his upcoming birthday-it was sent in by his mother (and the song was “Shop Around”).

1965 – The Beatles fly to the Bahamas to begin filming their second movie, tentatively titled “Eight Arms To Hold You,” that would become “Help!”

1967 – The Beatles in the recording studio, Studio Two, EMI’s Abbey Road Studios, London, recording the piano note ending for “A Day in the Life.” John, Paul, Ringo, and Mal Evans, using three different pianos, simultaneously strike E major. It requires nine takes to get everyone hitting the note at the same moment. This is overdubbed three times, with a harmonium overdub by George Martin added in. The perfect ending for the song, and the album, had been found. Later in the session, the Beatles record an experimental track, “Anything” (aka “Drum Track”), 22 mins 10 secs long, of Ringo playing drums, augmented by tambourine and congas.

1969 – The Beatles in the recording studio, Trident Studios, London, recording “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” (35 takes). The track will not be completed until August 11.

1970 – Paul McCartney and film-maker Charlie Jenkins shoot footage for a promotional film of Paul’s “Maybe I’m Amazed.

1971 – Paul McCartney’s single “Another Day/Oh Woman, Oh Why” (Apple 1829) is released in the U.S.

1972 – Paul McCartney and Wings performs at Swansea University.

1994 – The Fireman (Paul McCartney and Youth) CD “strawberries oceans ship forest” (Capitol Capitol CDP-8) is released in the U.S. Tracks: “Transpiritual Stomp,” “Trans Lunar Rising,” “Transcrystaline,” “Pure Trance,” “Arizona Light,” “Celtic Stomp,” “Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest,” “444,” and “Sunrise Mix.

1976 – Judge Griesa gives a 29-page report on the case Lennon/Morris Levy, explaining that a verbal agreement was attempted, which John did not accept.

1963 – The Beatles perform a nighttime show at the Cavern Club, Liverpool. The supporting act is Lee Curtis & the All-Stars, the group for which Pete Best is drummer. This is the last time that any of The Beatles will see Pete Best in person.

1965 – The Beatles in the recording studio, Studio Two, EMI’s Abbey Road Studios, London. John’s song “You’re Going To Lose That Girl” is recorded in one day (two basic takes plus overdubs). An unsuccessful attempt is made on March 30 to improve the song, and the track completed this day is the one released on the “Help!” album.

1970 – The Plastic Ono Band appear on “Top of the Pops,” in a pre-taped performance of “Instant Karma!

1971 – Paul McCartney’s single “Another Day/Oh Woman, Oh Why” (Apple R-5889) is released in the U.K.

1977 – Ringo Starr (with Paul Williams) is a guest presenter at the Grammy Awards ceremony in the U.S.

1990 – John Lennon posthumous compilation album “The John Lennon Collection” (Capitol C2-91516) is released on CD in the U.S. Adds four songs not on the vinyl LP version: “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” “Stand by Me,” “Move Over Ms. L,” and “Cold Turkey.
